Actual film Essays

Genuine film Essays Genuine film Essay Genuine film Essay Arthur Miller utilizes characters and activity to investigate thoughts regarding various characteristics and feelings. He utilizes John and Elizabeth, for instance, to show the adoration that can get through on the off chance that you make a decent attempt at a relationship. He utilizes trustworthiness, through Proctor to show the great and the awful outcomes that can emerge out of coming clean and out of lying. He utilizes double-crossing through Proctor additionally; by Proctor taking part in an extramarital entanglements with Abigail. This shows how selling out can tear separated a marriage with one dumb misstep. He shows ravenousness and force through Danforth, by Danforth saying no deferment to the hangings just so his notoriety wouldnt be lost. He shows respect, through Giles, in light of the fact that Giles didnt answer affirmative or nay to being a witch. His last words were more weight and afterward he passed on. He kept up to his notoriety for being entertaining and by satisfying his name. Another way Miller associates through to the crowd is by utilizing various emotional gadgets. I am currently going to view a portion of the various procedures and how he does this. Mill operator utilizes various methods to construct and discharge pressure. One of these methods is leaving you on precipice holders. He did this with Acts 1,2 and 3! With Act 1 Abigail and Betty had recently made allegations of whom they had seen with the demon, Act 2 Elizabeth had quite recently been removed, and Act 3, Proctor has quite recently admitted and Hale had stopped the court! He utilizes short staccato sentences to develop strain, as in Act 4 Elizabeth says, Giles is dead so it is short and amazing. That way we feel a greater amount of an effect. Additionally in Act 2 where John and Elizabeth first beginning talking, they are stating just what they have to, not really expounding. Delegate says would you say you are well today? Also, Elizabeth says, I am while she could have broadly expounded, for example, yes Im fine much obliged, it was presumably only a passing cold, and you? She kept it as quick and painless as could reasonably be expected, practically telling the crowd that they couldnt have a long streaming discussion since she presumed him. Notwithstanding, I found that having watched the film, seen it performed and having perused the play content, the most emotional was the genuine film. I think this is on the grounds that you can utilize gadgets, for example, camera shots and edges and music to build the strain. There were additionally a variety of scenes in the film that I hadnt found in the play. I think this is on the grounds that it would be excessively hard in a genuine play to move the scene props around in such a little space of time! In the film I likewise believed that it made it increasingly emotional by making them state the rulers supplication not long before they were hung and the quantity of voices bit by bit diminishing as individually they got pushed off. I truly didnt like, in any case, the way that John didnt get the opportunity to state Amen. I imagine that connections back to the injustice and mercilessness of the time. Toward the finish of Act 3 Miller has left us as eager and anxious as ever, however as we enter Act 4, Miller utilizes the diversion of Tituba and Sarah to make our strain decline again. In act 4 our pressure goes all over like a yo-yo with Proctors ambivalent psyche, we can never unwind! Before the finish of Act 4 our strain is at its peak, particularly with the stage course the last drum move crashes, at that point uplifts fiercely, Hale sobs in mad petition, and the new sun is pouring in upon her face, and the drums clatter like bones toward the beginning of the day air. Another method Miller utilizes, is emotional incongruity. He utilizes this to make tremendous measures of strain, for example, the undertaking among Proctor and Abigail. At the point when John and Elizabeth were distant from everyone else together without precedent for Act 2, pressure was high since we knew, and John realized what he had done, yet Elizabeth didnt. He utilizes stops to make a feeling of somebody thinking that its difficult to state something; they may be terrified, or even nervous. Arthur Miller utilizes language with layers of various implications. I am currently going to view a portion of the sentences he has assembled and whether they have more than one significance. In Act 1, John and Abigail are disregarded. They use words alluding to hot and cold and creatures to discuss sex in a roundabout way. This is on the grounds that it just wasnt a thing you would discuss! For instance perspired like a steed this could likewise mean simply sex and no adoration, as animals. Abigail says, You are no snowy man this could mean he isn't deadpan and freezing, he is hot blooded and enthusiastic. Not at all like Elizabeth who she says is a chilly, whimpering lady. Abigail is attempting to state that John is the direct inverse to Elizabeth. She is asking why John would need to be with her? She is so extraordinary and doesnt fulfill him like Abigail does. Throughout the play Miller utilizes figurative language. In Act 2 John says I will fall like a sea on that court I think this implies the court will be ousted and will have a modest quantity of intensity contrasted with what John will have. Arthur Miller utilizes this language for various reasons. It might be to breath life into thoughts, or by making a connection through language to another unique situation and above all to make the crowd utilize their minds and consider the play, instead of simply plunking down, watching it and failing to think about it once more.

History of Ukiyo-e Ukiyo-e is conventional wood-square printing specialty of Japan. The engaging craft of the Ukiyo-e woodblock print is without a doubt the most all around known about every Japanese workmanship. This specific style of workmanship prospered in Japan during the period from the mid-seventeenth to the mid-nineteenth century. The word Ukiyo was begun from a Buddhism expression this brief world going on for ones life til' the very end. Bostons Climate Strike

Bostons Climate Strike Today has been a hectic day, to say the least. Its only around 9pm, and Ive already had about three outfit changes. Not only was today MITs Fall Career Fair, but also the day of the Global Climate Strike. All around the world, students, parents, every day workers, and more gathered around to call for climate justice. At MIT, and other schools in the area, students gathered to strike. In Boston, people gathered at City Hall Plaza, and then marched to the State House to continue protesting and rallying. I managed to squeeze some time in to go into Boston in between picking formal wear to impress potential recruiters. Unfortunately, I missed the community events in the morning, where people made signs and other art at City Hall Plaza, but I made it for the main rally. There were some amazing speakers at the event (which could get hard to hear with all of the noise of the crowd), including Gina McCarthy, former Secretary of the EPA under the Obama administration. There was a real buzzing of enthusiasm throughout. It certainly felt strange going to the Career Fair after. Surrounded by booths and booths of companies and corporations felt like a total 180. The interviews, the formalities, the waiting in line to talk to a representative for just ten minutes, all just felt so incredibly unimportant compared to what was really on my mind all day. Its hard to describe in words the feeling of being surrounded by so many other people trying to fight for the same thing. There were a lot of young people around too, college students with quirky signs, teenagers in braces, and children with their parents, which made me hopeful for the future, but also sad. I feel like I had already begun mourning for the future that is not what they what I hoped for. I had felt the despair sinking in for months now, gradually taking hold. But, even if for just the hour or so I was there, I began to feel hopeful. For one of the first times in my life, I stopped in the moment and thought about a future where children would hear about these strikes from their parents, and think, Wow, I cant believe they almost let that happen.  Even after I left, I heard from my roommates who stayed that the Boston State House was filled with protestors who demanded that their representatives do more to stop this. Honestly, if the future is going to be run by the smart, passionate youths I saw today, its hard not to be hopeful. At the rally, one of the speakers had said that the people had the power to enact change. A lot of the time, it doesnt feel like that. When youre one person fighting against many, it becomes so easy to feel hopeless and give up. But today was a lesson in something else, not just to us, but to everyone trying to keep us down. We arent just one person fighting against many. And we are not powerless in this fight against climate change. Here are just a few shots showing you how truly massive this movement is, and just how clever people can get: An arrow pointing right Previous An arrow pointing right Next

Si no, serà ¡ negada.

Technology And Its Impact On Society Essay - 2064 Words

Growing up, thinking for yourself was a prominent idea that was often drilled into our minds. Parents, teachers and friends wanted you to think of your own ideas and be able to talk about them in depth. But as time has gone on, there has been much less emphasis on personal thought. This may be due to the shift in our reliance on technology. Since technology is used more than ever, we have access to an immense amount of information. But just because we have access to a lot of information, doesn’t mean that we completely understand it all. Accepting information only for what you see or hear, might hinder the truth because it could come from a bias source. Also it is often difficult to understand something when you haven’t gone through it. For example, you could read about the apartheid in South Africa, but you would never completely understand the history and reasoning behind it unless you experienced it. This is why traveling and learning about other cultures is so impor tant. When the information and experience is right in front of you, you have the ability to process it and understand it completely. Since you physically experienced the culture there is no doubt that the information you were presented with was true. You end up walking away with a new understanding of a city or country that was completely new to you. This is one of the many things I hope to gain from studying abroad. Perspectives on Writing by Different Authors Essay

Writing is a broad topic. A topic as broad as writing leaves loopholes and room for those who choose to of express themselves. This expression can be completely voluntary, such as a job or hobby, or involuntary, such as writings assignments for students. Yet no matter the profession of the writer, there is a common ground for all. Writing can be an art for some or a gained skill for others. No matter the interpretation, there will be hardships while writing, like writer’s blocks and numerous drafts. The moral of this is that writing is a task for all. (Recognizing that writing is a messy/painful/imperfect: shitty first draft- child.. Diaz) People use writing as a form of conversation between people. The writers start that conversation.†¦show more content†¦I rather have more evidence and pages to mold then having to restart over and over again. As Lamott puts her process of writing in her essay, she expresses how you just have to get something down on paper before you can even think of achieve anything. The best way of expressing this is through multiple drafts: the first draft as the down draft, the second as the up draft and then the third being the dental draft (303). The way to break down this is thinking that these are the stages of writing. They are not simple, but more delicate. The more work you apply and the more shaping to your essay, they closer to the end product you get. For my essays, I try to draft and draft and draft. To me, the constant editing allows old claims to be strengthened and new ones to de identified. As Lamott says to write and write, Junot Diaz, the author of â€Å"Becoming a Writer†, highlights a different aspect of writing that is just as painful as continual writing. Diaz, through narrating his own process of one of his pieces of writing, expresses the pain he felt during his writer’s block. He recalls the process stating, â€Å" I wrote and I wrote and I wrote but nothing I produced was worth a damn† (Diaz 319). He viewed his writer’s block as a burden. Investment Psychology and Discipline †MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about the Investment Psychology and Discipline . Answer: Investment Psychology Every investors objective to investing is to earn high interests or dividends. Investment Markets are unpredictable and investors need to keep cost low and a working strategy for long term investment success (Yang Wagner, 2014). It requires an investor to maintain and have psychological discipline to make rational investment decisions. Psychological discipline is important for avoiding or minimizing bias when making investment decisions. Investors with psychological bias make decisions based on their emotions rather than reason. An average human behavior to investment is influenced by herd mentality and the bull and bear market that hinder making of rational decision in the stock price though peaks and trough (Maheu, McCurdy Song, 2012). The herd mentality makes investor to follow what others are doing in the investment market forgoing their independent thoughts (Dang Lin, 2016). The bull market make investors to think in optimism thereby buying a stock that eventually lead to the stock being overpriced. On the other side, bear market is characterized with investors pessimism that leads to share price losing in the stock market value. The share prices are not static and keep changing. The peak share price is the highest price while trough is the lowest price of a stock at a specified period of time. An investor should buy shares at trough and sell them at peak to minimize cost of buying and maximize the price of disposing thereby earning a high interest. The following paper with discuss three companies that I choose to invest in. These companies are Amazon Inc, Google Inc, and Dominos Pizza Inc. The paper will discuss their financial history and current standing, reasons to invest in the companies both emotional and logical and a comparison to each companys competitor. The paper will also outline prediction of the companys future performance. Amazon.com Inc Amazon is a cloud computing and electronic e-commerce company with head offices in Seattle Washington. Gram Negative Unknown Lab Report Essays

Gram Negative Unknown Lab Report Essays Gram Negative Unknown Lab Report Paper Gram Negative Unknown Lab Report Paper E. Coli is most commonly found in the intestines of warm blooded organisms. Most E. Coli strands are non pathogenic however, there are strands known to cause food poisoning. Introduction There are multiple reasons for identifying unknown bacteria. In research, it is a must to be able to identify unknown bacteria if you are comparing the different microorganisms. The identification of unknown bacteria may ultimately lead to the discovery of a new species because the results of the tests performed on it may not match those of any other. In my case I had a gram negative bacteria. Gram-negative bacteria are colored red or pink when Gram stained. They have an outer membrane containing alphanumerically that is not found in gram- positive bacteria. This outer membrane functions as an added layer of protection, by shielding the bacteria from several antibiotics, dyes, and detergents that would damage the inner membrane or cell wall. In this particular experiment, I was issued an unidentified organism that could be one of six different bacteria. In order to identify it I was required to run a series of tests and do a comparative analysis. I received my bacteria in a test tube and I inoculated a TTS plate using the T-Streak method in order to isolate the bacteria and also to grow bacteria to use for my tests. Materials and Methods The materials I had available to me for use for this experiment were a TTS plate, a TTS slant, a Gelatin Tube, a Methyl Red Tube, a Vogues-Prosperous Tube, a Urea Tube, a SIMI Tube, a Citrate Slant and a THIS slant, a light microscope, an inoculating loop, and inoculating needle, a burner, an apron, and some glass slides. I did a Gram Stain in order to assure that my bacterium was gram-negative. : I UT a drop of distilled water on a microscope slide and inoculated the bacteria in it. I then heat fixed the bacteria by passing it over a flame three times. Then I applied Crystal Violet to the slide for one minute, and rinsed with distilled water. The slide was rinsed with 95% ethanol for five seconds and immediately rinsed with distilled water. Seafaring stain was added to the slide for two minutes followed by a rinsing with distilled water. A light microscope was used at xx magnification to observe the stained slides. I used the test tube of my unknown bacteria and an inoculating loop to inoculate my TTS plate and TTS slant. I used the T-Streak method on the plate by flaming the loop and streaking quadrant one than flaming the loop again and streaking quadrant two and then flaming the loop again and streaking quadrant three. I then flame the loop again and inoculated the slant. I than incubated them at 37 degrees Celsius for 24 hours and used them to complete the other tests. Next I performed the Gelatins Test using a gelatin tube. I first flamed an inoculating needle and then gathered some colonies from my unknown test tube and stabbed the gelatin tube. This is a differential medium that tests an organisms ability to produce an economy called gelatins that will hydrology gelatin. For the Methyl-Red test I inoculated the test tube with bacteria from my TTS plate and incubated the tube at 37 degrees Celsius for 24 hours. After incubation I placed several drops of the pH indicator Methyl-Red into the test tube and observed the color change of either red or yellow. This test is to see whether the bacterium produces glucose from the mixed acid pathway or not. A red result means the bacteria tested positive. In the Vogues-Prosperous test, I inoculated the tube with bacteria from my TTS late and incubated the tube at 37 degrees Celsius for 3 days. After three days I placed some Barrios Reagent A and Barrios Reagent B in the test tube. The color change of red or pink indicates a positive reaction for action which tells you that the organism is a butadiene ferment. For the Areas test, I inoculated my Urea test tube with my unknown bacteria from a TTS plate using and inoculating loop. The Urea tube was then incubated at 37 degrees Celsius for 8 days to observe for a color change. The Urea tests for the ability of a bacteria grown in urea broth produces areas. This medium notations the pH indicator phenol red. If areas is produced the pH of the media will raise thus causing the phenol red to change from yellow to a pink color. I used an inoculating needle to stab the SIMI test tube and then incubated it at 37 degrees Celsius for 24 hours. The SIMI test was used to test whether an organism has the ability to reduce sulfur to hydrogen sulfide. Iron salts in the media reacts with the hydrogen sulfide to form a black precipitate called ferric sulfide. If sulfur can be reduced than a black color will be seen in the tube. This test also sees if an organism is and indolent producer. Indolent producers are bacteria that produce the enzyme transposes which can hydrology thyrotrophic to private, ammonia and indolent. To test for indolent production, Kavas reagent is dropped into the medium. If there is a red color than the bacteria tests positive for indolent production and brown yields a negative result. The third test that the SIMI test is for is motility. If the bacteria is motile then cloudiness will be seen in the medium and if not the bacteria will only be located where it was stabbed. The Citrate Test was used to test for the ability of a bacteria to utilize citrate as sole source of carbon, these bacteria produce citrate permeate which can transport citrate into the cell and make private from it. Bacteria that can utilize the citrate causes the media to become more alkaline. The indicator for this test is biorhythms blue dye which will turn from green to blue if pH is at 7. And above. A blue color change yields a positive result. I inoculated the THIS (Triple Sugar Iron Agar) Slant with bacteria from my TTS plate using an inoculating loop. The medium was then incubated at 37 degrees Celsius and checked after eight hours of incubation and again after 24 hours f incubation. This test is a differential that tests for sugar utilization, gas production and sulfur reduction. It cont ains lactose, SUcrose and glucose and phenol red as an indicator. No color change means that no sugars were fermented. If there is as bubble or splitting in the medium than a gas was produced and a black color signifies hydrogen sulfide production. The media has sodium tessellate as a reducible sulfur and ferrous sulfate as the hydrogen sulfide indicator. Results The Gelatin test was solid after placing the medium in the cold room for 45 minutes thus it was negative for gelatins. The Methyl-Red test turned red after adding methyl red to the medium indicating a positive result, thus indicating that the unknown produced mixed acids from glucose fermentation. The Vogues- Pressure test had no color change, thus indicating that the unknown was not a butadiene fermented. My unknown remained yellow in the Areas test which means it tested negative thus indicating that the unknown was unable to produce areas. In the SIMI test my unknown had negative results for sulfur reduction and motility but tested positive for indolent production. There was no lack color in the medium and there wasnt a cloudiness either however, the medium turned red when Kavas reagent was added indicating the ability for the unknown to produce transposes. For the Citrate test, my unknown remained green which yields a negative result and the inability of the bacteria to utilize citrate as a sole source of carbon. For the THIS slant my unknown had a yellow slant and a yellow but and it had gas bubbles in the butt thus indicating that glucose and lactose fermentation and the production of a gas. It was negative for sulfur production. All of the previous results were than compared to gram negative unknown chart and the only bacteria that had the same results was Escherichia coli. The unknown #3 was thus identified as E. Coli. Conclusion The identity of the unknown bacterium #3, E. Coli, was supported by all of the tests that were performed for this experiment. The search began with the identification of the bacteria as being rod shaped under the light microscope. Each test was used to eliminate the five other possible choices. The negative result of the Gelatin test eliminated Protest miracles and Pseudopodia organisms as possible candidates. The positive Methyl Red result further eliminated Entertainer arrogates. The negative Vogues-Prosperous test result didnt allow me to rule out any of the remaining candidates. The negative Areas test result knocked Kielbasa pneumonia out as a possible candidate. The negative sulfur production of the SIMI test allowed me to lastly mark Salmonella typographic out a possible candidate leaving only E. Coli. The positive indolent test was only characteristic of E. Coli and the motility of the unknown was in concordance with E. Coli. Also my negative Citrate test was only characteristic of the bacteria E. Coli. The THIS slant really just helped me be sure of three other acetate that my unknown couldnt have been. Escherichia coli also known as E. Coli is a bacterium that is prevalent in the gut of warm blooded organisms. There are several types of E. Coli that are a normal part of the human body and have many beneficial factors including the production of vitamin K. E. Coli also helps prevent harmful bacteria or pathogenic bacteria from growing inside the intestine. Most strains of E. Coli are non pathogenic however, some strains are known to cause things such as food poisoning and serious infections. E. Coli has been the cause of death for many. Symptoms of an E. Lie infection include abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, fever and fatigue. This pathogen is easily spreader and has received a lot of controversy. E. Coli was named for the person who discovered it, German pediatrician Theodore Escherichia. I feel that this lab was very good for students such as me to see what microbiologists do on a daily basis. I really enjoyed this lab experiment and it has caused me to seek to change m y major to microbiology. I think the identification of unknown bacteria is a very important task and really do have deep respect for the people who make this their profession.

Almarai food company Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Almarai food company - Essay Example The entrepreneurs imported plants, cows and knowledge from other countries (The Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce 3). The dairy industry has attracted a number of players but they are limited by widespread water shortage across the country. The major players in the industry include the Almarai Food Company which was established in 1976; Al safi Denone established in 1979; Nada dairy; Nadec and other smaller companies. The four organizations hold approximate market share of about 41.7%, 20.7%, 8% and 14% respectively (Pendleton 2). The companies started by producing plain lifelong milk but due to demand they have also included flavored lifelong milk. The government has over the years capped the growth of the dairy industry (Al-Otaibi and Robinson 2). This has made people to resort to the use of powdered milk made by Irish companies. There are very few players in the dairy industry in the Saudi Arabian market which makes structure of the industry to be oligopolistic (Al-Asfoor 1). This means that a slight change of the price by one player will have a big impact on competitors. Unlike it is elsewhere in the world where the outlets buy daily products from manufactures, outlet operators in Saudi Arabia do not buy but sell products for the manufacturers. The risk of excess stock is borne by the manufacturers. ... The government helps the producers to reach an agreement on shelf space in the outlets and prices both at wholesale and retail levels whenever there is a problem. The competition among the players in the Saudi Arabia dairy industry is mainly price. This is because there is less differentiation of their products (Al-Asfoor 2). Whenever one of the companies lowers the price for its products, customers are likely to abandon other products in its favor. This makes others also to lower their so as to compete favorably. This has made economic advisors to advice the companies in this industry to differentiate their products as a way of avoiding cutthroat price competition. The Saudi Arabian dairy industry has grown to be very competitive in the gulf region (Pendleton 1). Almarai Food Copany, the biggest food manufacturing company in the industry entered into collaboration with Pepsi Company. This has enabled it to conquer markets in the Gulf region, Africa, and the Far East. This has been p ossible due to its high quality goods which compete effectively with those produced by international industries (Pendleton 1). Currently, the dairy industry of Saudi Arabia is the leading in the gulf region. It supplies its products to five countries including Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. Table 1 shows the market shares of different milk brands in Saudi Arabia between 2007 and 2011. Table 1: Historic Market Shares Government intervention in this industry has been minimal. The government came in when the prices wars threatened to lead the industry to a state of collapse. It helped the competitors in the industry reach agreements to stabilize prices (Uthman 7). Nascar and Formula One Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Nascar and Formula One - Essay Example But the two competitions differ in three key areas, namely, 1 – rules and set-up of the competition; 2 – the technical differences in the build of race-cars; and 3 – the reach and fan following of the sport. The following paragraphs will expand on these points. Firstly, Formula One is authorized by the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and is the more lucrative of the two. But motor-race connoisseurs have found NASCAR to be more appealing in certain aspects. For example, competition for pole position tends to be more open in a NASCAR race compared to a F1 race. In the latter, whoever starts at the pole position ends up winning the race most times, making the field of competition less-egalitarian than NASCAR. NASCAR is also noted for testing drivers' core racing skills, whereas in Formula One, strategies, tactics and other team considerations bear upon the outcome. As a result both these circuits have developed their own niche fan following. NASCAR r aces are usually 400-500 miles long and are run on oval tracks, whereas Formula One races are run on uniquely constructed circuits and last about 2-3 hrs.

Emergency Response to Terrorism

Emergency Response to Terrorism Past Acts of Terrorism On September 11, 2001, America experienced an attack. Early in the morning at around 8:45 am a flight carrying 20, 000 gallons of jet fuel made its way to the northern side of the world trade centre tower hitting the 80th floor. This lead to the death of hundred plus individuals plus other were trapped on the higher floors of the world trade centre located in New York. Some few minutes later the same world trade centre building was hit with another plane which hit the 60th floor, and this led to a massive explosion that alarmed the whole state that indeed America was under attack. Immediately during the attack, the media managed to make a live broadcast of the attack so as to inform the public of the occurrence. The planners of the attack of the September 11 did it perfectly such that they ensured that there was no leak of the attack to the public. The attacker did not make use of any electronic form of communication, and thus this radio silence helped them execute their plan effectively. During the attack, the federal government experienced various communication breakdown, and this affected how the disaster was handled. An official from the 9/1 1gave a statement and said that the federal government experienced various communication breakdowns during the attack (Asaeda, 2005). The report that was given showed that the systems of communication that were put in place had failed. During the attack, those who were operating the planes tried to reach the Federal Aviation Administration via teleconferencing, but this proved difficult. The FAA did not join the conference for almost 15 minutes and even after they had joined they did not take an immediate move. The FAA personals involved in the conferencing did not have the authority to deal with the situation as the senior officials were absent. This delay in the relaying of information between the operators and the FAA contributed a lot to the attack being successful. If the official responded in advance, then an immediate solution would have been adopted to deal with the situation. Immediately the attack took place it only took a few minutes, and the firefighters were on the ground. The attack led to several individuals being hurt and may others losing their lives. The hospitals in New Jersey, New York and the neighbouring areas prepared themselves for the attack. The hospital beds were secured, and the elective surgeries that were taking place were put to a halt to make room for the victims of the attack. St Vincent who was the closest trauma centre approximately 1.6 km from the world trade centre was filled with victims of the occurrence. New York Cornell Hospital dealt with the burn patients as it is the only burn centre in Manhattan. The nurses and the doctors were not allowed to leave the hospitals because of the large number of patients that were being rushed to the hospitals (Kendra Wachtendorf, 2003). The rescue teams including the firefighters and the policemen were in place to ensure that the situation was under control. In total the rescue team mana ged to save the lives of twenty individuals who had been trapped in the building. The first responders encountered several challenges when the WTC attack took place. After the bombing of the world trade centre in 1993 radio repeaters were installed in the tower to ease communication but the firefighters were not aware that the repeaters were functioning. During the attack, there was little communication between the police department and the fire department and thus when the police were notified to evacuate the building after realising that the tower was at a risk of collapsing the firefighters were not informed. The firefighters lacked information about the collapse of the building because they were not watching the news broadcast and also because the communication centre for the police which could have used to inform them had been evacuated due to the threat that the building will collapse. The supplies for various equipment needed for rescue delayed and this thus crippled the rescue situation. The government agencies responded pretty well to the disaster. The various rescue teams and firefighting teams were in place, and they showed their bravery in the scene. They managed to save a lot of lives, and those who were injured were immediately rushed to the hospital. The hospital having been alarmed by the situation had already prepared for the disaster and had their doctors in place to take care of the situation at hand. The rescue teams experienced problems with communication, and thus the crowding of the communication network made it hard for the hospital to determine the patients are coming from the world trade centre attack (Simon Teperman, 2001). Despite the communication breakdown the hospitals still managed to take care of the patients and create more beds for the world trade centre victims. In future, the government should, therefore, ensure that they have communication backup in case of such an occurrence in future. The world trade centre sent an awakening call to the government of the United States concerning their preparation for such disasters. The fact that the tower has been a site of interest for many terrorists because of the many people it accommodates and its location as well. The government should, therefore, put in place security measures that will help curb such situations in future. The awakening call has also helped the government to improve the disaster management technique that was in place before. References Asaeda, G. (2005, September). World Trade Centre Attack. Emergency Response to Terrorism Emergency Response to Terrorism Decontamination On a wide scope of meaning, the word decontamination refers to the idea of making a place safe once it has been made unsafe in which ever manner. It involves getting rid of any dangerous objects like bombs or even people that make places unsafe. Cases of decontamination have been very severe as time has gone by mostly encouraged by the fact that there is high rate of technological development. High School In society, schools are one of the institutions that carry the highest number of people. They will have so many people or students who have gone to acquire knowledge and this is almost on a daily basis. Some of the reasons why a school could be attacked include; Many people will die or be affected during the attack due to the high population which is a characteristic of most schools. A terrorist always finds ways of affecting the highest population that he possibly can. The number of deaths that will be experienced in a school is quite high because the school has young children who may not know how to help themselves or how to offer proper first aid to their injured friends due to panic. This means that the number of deaths will be so high. The school has students from almost all walks of life or even at times from different countries and races. Attacking the school will mean that the different families where the children come from will be affected. A large portion of the country and state will be affected in the process. Initial considerations To make a school safe again there are so many things that I will have to look at; The nearness of the school to the city The population of the school is important so that one can prepare and approximate the number of first aid material that will be needed. The Decontamination Once we get to the school; Take all the casualties to the hospital without wasting any time so that we can save as many lifes as possible. This is the very first step to making the school safe by ensuring that the lives of those who have been affected are secured. Once that is done the facility should be cleared so that all people are kept as far away as possible from the school to avoid any more damages. Specialists in the area of bombing are then called in to survey the whole school and check if there are any more bombs. Any that is still on should be disarmed in the most careful way. The school should be then closed till its proved to be safe for any further learning. ÂÂ  Explain why your chosen initial decontamination considerations are important to this particular attack, and explain how, as a first responder, you will meet these challenges. The unfortunate aspect of the school in this case is that it is quite near to one of the big cities in the state and this poses a risk to the city. The people in the city will panic due to fear that they are next. The best way to deal with this is to use the media to inform them of what exactly happened and to ask them not to panic but to be cautious. The school is one of a high population of students and that goes without saying that I will need a lot of people in the rescue team for efficiency. Such a school may have a lot of casualties as the many students fought for safety out of their classes or the bomb may have affected many (Houghton,2016). Football stadium This is a good target for an attack because so many people love football and so he will get the attention he needs from the public. Since different people of different ages and ways of life go to watch football, no one will be able to tell who was responsible for the attack. A person can easily sneak the bomb in and out of the stadium. Initial considerations The architecture of the stadium- Some of the stadiums are quite complex in the way that they were built and this may make it even more difficult to decontaminate. It will require the help of architects especially when it comes to the issue of assessing the place for any bombs that may be hidden. The decontamination Approach scene with caution -While going to the arena, it is important to be careful as you go to the rescue because you can find that there are other bombs in the stadium that are still yet to go off and cause more death. Assess the place and find out where the bombs are located and disarm those that are still on to avoid further damage. Identify signs and indicators of CBRN incidents;-Take time to acquire patterns of things that were done deliberately to cause the bombing. This means establishing how the security was bridged all that was done for the bomb to go off It is important to know how many people lost their lives and to also identify who they were. People will come looking for their family members who might have lost their lives and so establishing the identity is important. For accountability purposes, the citizens will also expect to have a comprehensive report on the number of causalities in the bombing. Establish all the resources that will be needed for the cleaning up of any hazardous material left in the stadium. This will rely on the extent to which the bombing affected the place and the size of the stadium. The facility needs to be closed off from any further use till it is completely made safe for use. This will involve clearing of any chemicals or hazardous gases that may have been released. It can only be opened once professionals in this filed certify it as safe for use. Conclusion There are different forms of contamination in the world where bombing is one of them. This has been the cause of mass loss of life in the human history. These needs to be approached with care because any mistake made could make things worse. All the above listed steps or more should be followed with great caution so as to make places safe for use again. One fact remains; attacks will always be on places of large population (Simpson, 2014). References Houghton, B. (2016). The Changing Nature and Tactics of Terrorism. Oklahoma Politics, 25, 1-16. Doc Edgerton :: essays research papers

Able to photograph a bullet in flight, Harold Eugene â€Å"Doc† Edgerton was born in April 6,1903 in Fremont, Nebraska. Harold Edgerton studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where from 1926 to 1931 he (and his associates) developed the modern stroboscope. Edgerton applied his discovery of the modern stroboscope to a wide range of fields. His discovery aided under-water photography and sonar research, photography in nature, and motion pictures. He taught thousands of students at MIT, and he enjoyed every minute of teaching.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Edgerton enrolled at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as a graduate student, but he remained there for approximately 60 years. At MIT, Doc Edgerton was a professor of electrical engineering. As a graduate student at MIT, Edgerton developed an electric strobe light with which he produced flashes of 1/500,000 second. When the flash is used in a series, the progressive stages of an object in motion can be recorded on the same piece of film. An example of this would be Tennis by Edgerton. Now, flashes are at the speed of a few billionths of a second, this would not have been possible without the work of Doc Edgerton.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The simplest kind of stroboscope is a revolving disk with usually one slit or hole, but sometimes more, in its periphery. These holes enable the observer to view the object. The revolutions of the disc can be synchronized, with the motion of the object. With the precise synchronization, even photographs of bullets in flight can be taken. The photographs are like contemporary motion picture frames.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Not only was the discovery of the modern high-speed stroboscope useful in photography, but also in the field of engineering. The stroboscope could be used to study wear, vibration, and distortion of moving parts while the parts of the machine are being used (the machine is running).   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Edgerton was also involved in ocean research. He took a few photographic journeys with his good friend Jacques Cousteau. Cousteau gave Edgerton the nickname â€Å"Papa Flash.† Jacques Cousteau, at celebration for the life of Edgerton, said; â€Å"He (Edgerton) was the only human being I ever met that met life with as much enthusiasm†¦He was a perpetual dreamer.

Chapter 10 Sociology Race and Ethnicity Essay

– Race: people who share physical characteristics, such as skin color and facial features that are passed on through reproduction – social construction: a societal invention that labels people based on physical appearance. – Skin color, hair texture, and eye shape are examples of unequal treatment – Ethnic Group: a group of people who identify with a common national origin or cultural heritage that includes language, geographic roots, food, customs, traditions, and/or religion. – Puerto Ricans, Chinese, Serbs, Arabs, Swedes, Hungarians, Jews – Racial-Ethnic Group: people who have distinctive physical and cultural characteristics. Immigrants – Illegal immigrants do the jobs that most Americans don’t want like clean homes and offices, nannies and busboys, nurses’ aides, and pick fruit for low wage Dominant and Minority Groups: – Dominant Group: any physically or culturally distinctive group that has most economic and political power, the greatest privileges, and the highest social status. – Men are dominant group because they have more status, resources, and power than women. – Apartheid: a formal system of racial segregation – Minority: a group of people who may be subject to differential and unequal treatment because of their physical, cultural, and other characteristics such as sex, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, or skin color. – American minorities have fewer choices than dominant group members in finding homes and apartments because they are less likely to get help from a bank to help with mortgage. – Patterns of Dominant-Minority Group Relations: – Genocide: the systematic effort to kill all members of a particular ethnic, religious, political, racial, or national group. – Holocaust in Germany – Segregation: the physical and social separation of dominant and minority groups. – De Facto: informal; may be voluntary as when members of racial or ethnic groups prefer to live among their own group. Due to discrimination -De Jure: Legal; replaced by de facto – Assimilation: the process of conforming to the culture of the dominant group, adopting its language and values, and intermarrying with that group. – Mexicans are less likely to assimilate in the US than immigrants from the Philippines, Vietnam or South Korea because they are more likely to have entered the country illegally which cuts them from getting a good job, most public assistance programs, and eventual citizenship – Pluralism: minority groups retain their culture but have equal social standing in a society. – The US is pluralistic because it is multicultural, multicolored, and multilingual. Also, the US has most racial and ethnic communities (â€Å"Little Italy†, â€Å"Greek Town†, â€Å"Little Korea†, â€Å"Spanish Harlem†) live peacefully side by side Some Sources of Racial-Ethnic Friction. – Racism: a set of beliefs that one’s own racial group is naturally superior to other groups. – Prejudice: an attitude, positive or negative, toward people because of their membership. – Different from us in race, ethnicity, or religion. Asians are really hard workers; White people can’t be trusted – Stereotype: an oversimplified exaggerated generalization about a category of people. – Can be positive; All African Americans are athletic – Can be negative; All African Americans are lazy – Ethnocentrism: the belief that one’s own culture, society, or group is inherently superior to others. – Reject those outside of our group. – Scapegoats: individuals or groups whom people blame for their own problems or shortcomings. – They didn’t hire me because the company wants blacks; I didn’t get into that college because Asian Americans are at the top of the list Minorities are scapegoating targets because they differ in physical appearance and too powerless to strike back. – Stereotypes, ethnocentrism, and scapegoating are attitudes, but lead to discrimination. – Discrimination: any act that treats people unequally or unfairly because of their group membership. – Range from social slights (not inviting a co worker to lunch) to rejection of job application and hate crimes. – Can be subtle (not sitting next to someone) or blatant (racial slurs) – Individual Discrimination: harmful action on a one-to-one basis by a member of a dominant group against a member of a minority group. – Discrimination while eating in restaurants, shopping, buying house, applying for job, etc. – Institutional Discrimination: unequal treatment and opportunities that members of minority groups experience as a result of the everyday operations of a society’s law, rules, policies, practices, and customs. – Heath services; minorities get lower quality care than white people even when treated by the same doctor. – Relationship between Prejudice and Discrimination: – Robert Merton described the relationship between prejudice and discrimination as 4 patterns; 1. Unprejudiced Nondiscriminators: â€Å"All-weather liberals† They aren’t prejudiced and don’t discriminate; they believe in the American creed of freedom 2. Prejudiced Discriminators: â€Å"Active Bigots† They are prejudiced and do discriminate. They are willing to break laws to express beliefs 3. Unprejudiced Discriminators: â€Å"Fair-weather liberals† ; They aren’t prejudiced but they discriminate because its in their own self interest to do so 4. Prejudiced Nondiscrimination: â€Å"Timid Bigots† They are prejudiced but don’t discriminate. Major Racial and Ethnic Groups in the US – European Americans: immigrants from southern and eastern Europe; they viewed newcomers as dirty, lazy, and uncivilized because they differ in language, religion and customs. – Latinos: many Latinos who were professionals in their native land only find low-income jobs in the US. They often have a hard time to both work and learn English well enough to pass exams to become doctors, lawyers, and accountants. Many are successful though. Earn better hourly wages because they are older, better educated, and more likely to be employed in construction than agriculture. – African Americans: They are successful. A third of all black households earn incomes of $50,000 or more. – Asian Americans: the most successful Asian Americans are those who speak English relatively well and have high education levels. Have higher educational levels than any other US racial-ethnic groups. Most likely to be concentrated in highly skilled occupations like information technology, science, engineering, and medicine. – American Indians: they are not immigrants, they have been in the US longer than any other group. They have made considerable economic progress by insisting on self- determination and the rights of tribes to run their own affairs. Most of them work in construction and repair, maintenance, and personal and laundry services. – Middle Eastern Americans: one of the most diverse and complex combinations of geographic, historical, religious, linguistic, and even racial places on Earth. Tend to be better educated and wealthier than other Americans. Well integrated into American life. Three of four speak only English at home or speak it well and more than half are homeowners. Sociological Explanations of Racial-Ethnic Inequality – Functionalism: (macro) Prejudice and Discrimination can be dysfunctional, but they provide benefits for dominant groups and stabilize society. – Conflict: (macro) Powerful groups maintain their advantages and perpetuate racial-ethnic inequality primarily through economic exploitation – Primary Labor Market: held primarily by white workers, provide better wages, health and pension benefits, and some measure of job security. – Secondary Labor Market: (fast-food employees) are largely minorities and easily paid, their wages are low, there are a few benefits and working conditions are poor. – Feminist: (macro and micro) Minority women suffer from the combined effects of racism and sexism. – Gendered Racism: the overlapping and cumulative effects of inequality due to racism and sexism. – Symbolic Interactionism: (micro) Hostile attitudes toward minorities, which are learned, can be reduced through cooperative interracial and interethnic contacts. – Attitudes toward dominant and minority groups through labeling and selective perception can increase prejudice and discrimination. – Contact Hypothesis: the idea that more people get to know members of a minority group personally, the less likely they are to be prejudiced against that group Interracial and Interethnic Relationships: – Miscegenation: marriage or sexual relations between a man and a woman of different races. – The increase in intermarriage reflects many interrelated factors both macro and micro that include everyday contact and changing attitudes.

Music Concert Experience and Description Essay - 742 Words

Music Concert Experience and Description On October 19th I attended the State University Symphony Orchestra, State University Wind Symphony, and State University Choir concert, which was sponsored by the State University School of Music and Dance and was also held at in the Smith Recital Hall. Harold Warman conducted the SU Symphony Orchestra and the SU Wind Symphony while Frank Almond conducted the SU Choirs. Dr. Frank Almond is a Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at SU. Professor Harold Warman has been conducting orchestras for the past thirty-six years. He has taken groups to†¦show more content†¦This is a set of four poems from Irving Fine. The choir first read the poems and performed them after. Following the SDSU Chamber Signers, the SDSU Concert Choir performed Muie Rendera by C.A. Pinto-Fonseca and Regina Coeli by W.A. Mozart. All together there were about 50 concert choir singers, and about 17 chamber singers. After the intermission the SDSU Wind Symphony performed Flourish for Wind Band, Toccata Marziale, and Symphony No. 2. Ralph Vaughn Williams created Flourish for Wind Band along with Toccata Marziale. Both of these pieces feature a modern expressive style. Flourish for Wind Band was first performed on April 1, 1939 to lift the spirits of the English as Germany was threatening to take over their land. It has a very upbeat rhythm and melody due to the fact that it was supposed to help cheer up people. It seems to flow in the same pattern Toccata Marziale was created in 1924. Symphony No. 2 was composed by John Barnes Chance around 1961 and consisted of Sussurando-Energico, Elevato and Slancio. The last three pieces all ran together and seemed to have the same volume, form and tempo. After listening to the wind symphony play I was very impressed with their ability to keep up pace because all of the pieces performed had very fast tempo and rhythm although there wasnt really any instanc es of leading melody, all of theShow MoreRelatedConcert Critique954 Words   |  4 PagesMUS 110CL Concert Critique Guidelines and Rubric After either attending a live concert or watching a full length concert online, write a critique of the performance following the format below.
